Ancient drawings of decapitated human heads and domesticated llamas were found in the Peruvian desert using artificial intelligence. These geoglyphs, created by the Nazca culture around 2000 years ago, depict smaller and older figures compared to the Nazca lines. The geoglyphs show humanoid figures, domesticated animals, and even hint at human sacrifice. Masato Sakai from Yamagata University in Japan connected orcas to human sacrifice based on pottery from the Nazca period. The AI model identified 303 geoglyphs, speeding up the screening process by 50 times. Researchers found 178 geoglyphs individually and 66 within the highlighted group. Future field surveys will inspect nearly 1000 AI-identified geoglyphs, offering hope for discovering more beyond the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
