In December 2018, Warrington illuminated the Manchester Arena by defeating Carl Frampton, a Belfast fighter and Cacace’s close friend. His aggressive and dominant performance put his opponent in trouble right from the start.
Although Warrington had a strong start, landing a significant right uppercut in the second round, Cacace soon took control of the fight.
During his world title win against Joe Cordina in Saudi Arabia four months ago, Cacace went for a knockout from the beginning. However, in this fight, he took his time studying Warrington before unleashing a powerful right hook in the fourth round, following a series of body shots.
With Warrington weakening, Cacace landed a solid left hook to the nose in the fifth round.
Despite Warrington showing glimpses of his renowned work-rate and resilience, Cacace’s punching power and ringcraft posed a significant challenge for the Leeds fighter in the later rounds.
In a final effort in the last round, Warrington took risks and attacked fiercely, but Cacace effectively defended himself, leading to a judge’s decision of 118-110, 117-111, 117-111 in favor of the Belfast fighter.
Cacace is now set to face Mexican Nunez, while Warrington’s career may come to an end at 33 years old after failing to break his losing streak in the super-featherweight division.
