Caught a shocking change in Benz SUV, also asked about China.

The facelift of the AMG GLS 63 is expected to feature an enlarged triangular grille. What will the anticipated design look like?

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is currently undergoing its second facelift, which includes models from the high-performance AMG and Maybach lines. Changes in design and powertrain specifications are being considered in response to recent discussions about environmental regulations in the European Union.

Recently, a prototype of the new AMG GLS 63 was captured, revealing some of its features. Based on this sighting, a speculative design has emerged, created by the Russian media outlet Kolesa.ru.

The upcoming facelift is expected to introduce a wider radiator grille with AMG’s signature vertical slats. The headlamps are likely to be larger and undergo some modifications. The design is anticipated to resemble the new E-Class, featuring a radiator grille similar to that model, with a wide grille extending towards the sides and adorned with the characteristic vertical slats of AMG models.

The headlights will be connected to the grille, adopting a rounded curved shape. Additionally, daytime running lights shaped like the Mercedes-Benz logo will be included. The prototype of the base GLS model has confirmed the application of the Mercedes-Benz logo-shaped DRLs in the headlights, which is also reflected in the speculative design. Horizontal DRLs will be added on top of the headlamps.

The lower front bumper will have a sportier appearance, with larger trapezoidal air intakes. The side air intakes will be sleeker, with a more aerodynamic design. Changes in the rear will be minimal, mainly focused on applying the Mercedes-Benz logo in the taillamp graphics. Overall, the design is not expected to undergo significant changes, but adjustments may be made to comply with new environmental regulations that could impact the powertrain.

The current AMG GLS 63 is equipped with a 4.0L V8 gasoline twin-turbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 612 horsepower and a peak torque of 86.7 kgf.m. While detailed information about the powertrain specifications has not been disclosed, there is speculation that a plug-in hybrid powertrain could be introduced to enhance the model’s performance.

In addition, it is expected that the V8 engine will be phased out in the base GLS models. The GLS 450 currently features an inline-six engine, while the GLS 580 is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 gasoline twin-turbo engine producing 510 horsepower. To comply with European environmental regulations, downsizing and adding an electric motor to create a hybrid model is being considered. The interior is expected to feature upgraded materials, with changes to the dashboard, center console, and infotainment system.
