The city of Cheongju in Chungcheongbuk-do is hosting a festival called ‘Cheongwon Life Festival’ at the Future Agricultural Theme Park in Ochang-eup, Cheongju. The festival, held from the 27th to the 6th of next month, will feature local specialties such as agricultural products, natural mineral water, and desserts. Spanning 57,350 square meters, this festival is renowned as the best agricultural festival in the central region.
During the festival, the city will offer a 15% discount on 200 items from 70 different types of locally produced agricultural products. Visitors can also enjoy a self-service restaurant where they can grill and eat beef, pork, duck, and other items purchased at the event venue. In addition to performances and experience programs, various events such as singer Park Ji-hyun’s concert, folk games, a national residents’ self-governing program competition, a Cheongwon life singing contest, EDM festival, and closing concert will be held. There will also be prize events like the ‘Guerilla Roulette Event’ and ‘Guess the Weight of Agricultural Products’.
Festival admission tickets cost 5,000 won, which can be used as cash at the festival venue. Pregnant women, families with two or more children, and those who bring their own reusable containers can enter for free. Following this event, the ‘Sejong King and Chojeong Natural Water Festival’ will take place at Chojeong Palace in Naseu-eup, Cheongwon-gu from the 11th to the 13th of next month.
To provide visitors with the opportunity to taste traditional and modern foods, the city will operate a Suragan Royal Court Food Experience, a Cheongju traditional liquor and food promotion hall, and a food marketplace. There will also be 30 experience booths, including making Chojeong natural water drinks, street performances, and traditional wedding ceremonies. On the second day of the festival, the procession of King Sejong’s entourage entering Chojeong will be showcased.
Lastly, from the 19th to the 20th of the same month, the ‘2024 Cheongju Dessert and Bakery Festival’ will be held at Munjajeo Chang Jandigwangjang in Nadeok-dong, Cheongwon-gu. This event will feature 50 local dessert and bakery businesses.
The city of Cheongju will present programs such as promoting and selling representative local desserts and bakery products, exhibiting creative products from students majoring in confectionery and baking, experiencing desserts and related events, and a marketplace for special agricultural products. Mayor Lee Beom-seok said, “We have prepared this festival so that citizens can experience various leisure and cultural activities in the city center. Through festivals held in the Cheongju area, we hope to create special memories for the citizens.”
