Under the slogan "Taking a big step to make the world better and change the economic paradigm," the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Social Economy Expo’ was held. Starting on the 23rd and continuing until the 24th, the event took place at the Gyeonggi-do Suwon Convention Center. This event is the first social economy festival in Gyeonggi-do, organized by Gyeonggi-do and the Gyeonggi Social Economy Research Institute in cooperation with private social economy organizations.
At this expo, various programs were showcased, including a commemorative event, the ‘Everyone’s Social Economy Conference’ focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), carbon neutrality, education, and care, as well as the ‘Impact Franchise Showcase’ and ‘Public Procurement Consultation’ to expand the social economy ecosystem. Additionally, there were programs like the ‘Youth Demo Day’ and ‘Youth Social Innovation Idea Competition’, along with a popup store called ‘Gong3ilshop (031#, a store for social economy products)’ where social economy organizations’ products could be directly seen and experienced.
Gyeonggi-do, along with private social economy organizations, took up the mantle to continue the legacy of the Expo, as the Ministry of Economy and Finance drastically reduced the social economy budget and announced the discontinuation of support for the Incheon Metropolitan City, the scheduled venue for the 6th social economy Expo this year. In light of this, Gyeonggi-do and private social economy organizations are determined to drive social economy activation by carrying on the legacy of the Expo initiated by local governments.
