Hero saved a life, Yoo Jae-suk praised him for thumbs-up.

The hero of the lost is the chief of color guide lines, Yoon Seok-deok, who developed the color guide lines for the road. The color guide lines have been present on the roads for over 10 years, appearing on major highways such as Ansan and Pangyo, as well as on over 676 highways and local roads nationwide. These color guide lines have significantly reduced accidents at intersections and junctions where drivers often get confused about directions, making a big contribution to reducing traffic accidents. In particular, after the introduction of color guide lines at flat intersections in Seoul, there was a 43% reduction in fatalities and serious injuries. Yoon Seok-deok, a chief at the Korea Expressway Corporation, invented the revolutionary color guide lines. He received the Order of National Merit Moran Medal through public recommendation for his contribution to the development of “pavement color guide lines”. His invention received great praise among drivers, with many referring to him as a hero who saved lives. In 2020, on the show ‘Yu Quiz on the Block’, national MC Yoo Jae-suk introduced Yoon Seok-deok, saying, “When driving, if you get confused about the direction, you can follow the pink and green lines on the road.” Currently, he is working in Mauritius, an island nation in Africa, overseeing road and bridge maintenance for the Korea Expressway Corporation. Yoon felt the need for color guide lines after a traffic accident at Ansan Intersection in March 2011, and he began to conceptualize and develop it inspired by his children’s colorful drawings. However, the journey to introduce color guide lines was not easy. Selecting colors that did not duplicate existing colors on the road and the concept of painting colors on roads were unfamiliar and considered illegal at the time. Yoon planned to use pink on the right side of the road and green on the left side, but he could not easily attempt it due to fears of criticism. Nevertheless, through the Positive Administrative Measures, he obtained approval from the police and was finally able to draw color guide lines at Ansan Intersection in 2011. Despite many oppositions and difficulties in the process, his innovation was eventually legalized through the 2021 amendment of the Road Traffic Act, officially gaining recognition after 10 years. Now, color guide lines play an important role in creating a safe road environment nationwide, and netizens show a response that more developers like Yoon Seok-deok are needed. Thanks to Yoon’s efforts, color guide lines have become a valuable savior guiding direction and ensuring safety for countless lost drivers.
