Kia’s first authentic pickup truck, the Tasman, is set to be unveiled for the first time at the Saudi International Motor Show. Kia will debut the Tasman at the Jeddah International Motor Show in Saudi Arabia on October 29th, according to reports from automotive media outlets.
The Tasman, Kia’s first pickup truck, is scheduled for release in 2025. Based on the Mohave frame, it is expected to compete fiercely with the Rexton Sports after its launch.
The powertrain specifications are likely to include a rear-wheel drive system with Hyundai’s Smartstream G2.5T engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Diesel engines such as the Smartstream D2.2 and Mohave’s S2 engine are also expected to be installed.
With a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg, the Tasman aims to maintain its essence as an off-road vehicle with features such as a 4WD system, a limited-slip differential (LD), and various off-road driving modes.
Produced domestically, the Tasman will primarily target the markets of Korea and Australia. As consumer perceptions of pickup trucks in Korea have evolved, the Tasman’s introduction is expected to make a significant impact on the domestic market.
Kia’s Tasman test series, titled “One More Round,” showcases Kia’s commitment to perfection, even when it seems like it’s enough. Such efforts are expected to have a positive impact on sales growth.
