The drama “<내 이름은 김삼순>” that captivated the nation with over 50% viewership in 2005 is returning as an 8-part OTT series. The content has been adapted to fit the viewing habits of the OTT era, with outdated elements removed. The series was previewed at an event in Seoul, featuring director Kim Yoon-chul and lead actors Kim Sun-ah and Jung Ryu-won. The original drama, aired on MBC in June 2005, focused on the romantic comedy story of Kim Sam-soon, a 30-year-old pastry chef with insecurities about her name and appearance. The preview of episodes 1 and 2 showcased Sam-soon starting a contract relationship with Hyun Jin-heon (played by Hyun Bin) after a breakup with her boyfriend. Director Kim Yoon-chul emphasized the adjustments made to suit the viewers of 2024, particularly in refining the character of Jin-heon. The actors expressed gratitude for the opportunity to revisit the beloved drama after 19 years, with Kim Sun-ah describing it as a timeless piece and Jung Ryu-won praising its adaptation to current sensibilities. The revival of “<내 이름은 김삼순 2024>” is part of Wave’s ‘New Classic Project,’ aiming to reinterpret iconic 2000s dramas in a contemporary format. The project also includes remastering popular dramas like “<궁>,” “<풀 하우스>,” and “<커피프린스 1호점>” in 4K quality. Wave’s marketing director Han Jung explained that the project was inspired by the trend of consuming new dramas over remastered classics. The event concluded with the announcement of upcoming releases under the ‘New Classic Project,’ including “<미안하다 사랑한다 2024>.”
