There are leftovers, food waste, and even photos of a former lover that couldn’t be thrown away. It could be traces of secret tastes, hobbies, or preferences. This appearance is something you never want others to see. This week’s ‘homage’ introduces the webtoon Narrow Room, a story about that ‘narrow room’ that everyone has. Twenty-year-old Daye is a reclusive student preparing for art school entrance exams. Living alone in a small studio in the countryside, she attends an art academy. Her life is simple. She only goes back and forth between home and the academy. With her guarded personality and determination to focus solely on the entrance exams, she is always alone at home and at the academy. However, at some point, the head of the art academy starts making advances towards Daye. A middle-aged married man, he sends late-night messages saying “I think of you” and leaves unwanted gifts in the academy lockers. Sometimes, under the pretext of looking at her drawings, he subtly touches Daye’s body. At those times, Daye rushes to the bathroom to compulsively wash her hands. The mild obsessive-compulsive disorder of frequently washing hands worsens over time. Other students at the academy gossip behind Daye’s back.
