The flagship sedan EZ-6 from Mazda is being launched in China. Mazda has strengthened its focus on the Chinese eco-friendly car market by introducing its new flagship model EZ-6, which boasts a pure electric (EV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain with a maximum output of 255 horsepower.
The EZ-6 electric vehicle offers a range of over 600km on a full charge, while the extended range model boasts an impressive total range of up to 1,300km.
A new flagship sedan succeeding the Mazda 6 has been unveiled in Beijing, and detailed pricing and specifications have recently been revealed. The new flagship EZ-6 from Mazda features a modern design with a wide grille, LED headlights, and frameless doors with plush handles. The top trim also includes features like a panoramic glass roof, active rear spoiler, and power liftgate function.
The interior of the EZ-6 is designed with a minimalistic approach, featuring a 10.1-inch digital cluster and a 14.6-inch floating infotainment system. Leather or Nappa leather seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control system, and wireless smartphone charger are standard, while the top trim adds heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting in 64 colors, and a Sony premium audio system with 14 speakers.
The pure electric model of the EZ-6 comes with battery options of 56.1kWh and 68.8kWh, providing ranges of up to 480km and over 600km, respectively. The extended range model uses a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine to charge the battery, with a 94-horsepower engine and a 215-horsepower electric motor handling rear-wheel drive.
The starting price for the extended range model in China is 139,800 yuan (approximately 27 million won), while the electric model starts at 159,800 yuan (approximately 31 million won), offering a competitive price in the premium electric car market.
The key to the affordable price is that the EZ-6 was developed based on Chinese cars. Developed on the EPA1 platform of Jiangnan Automobile and produced locally in China, this pricing was possible. Domestic non-Hyundai brands such as KGM and Renault Korea are increasing their cooperation with Chinese companies such as Chery Automobile and Geely Automobile. As the Grand Koleos is highly rated for its product competitiveness, it seems that the era of ignoring Chinese platforms has arrived.
