The largest entertainment district in Tokyo, Kabukicho, is undergoing a transformation. It is being renovated with a new look.
Japan’s Travel Watch reported that Dokyu Recreation will open the Dokyu Kabukicho Tower in April 2023. The tower, standing at 225m with a total of 54 floors, consists of 48 above-ground floors, 5 underground floors, and 1 rooftop.
Kabukicho has been known for its neon signs and vibrant nightlife, earning the nickname “Adults’ Street.” It is filled with clubs, bars, karaoke, and pachinko parlors, attracting tourists but also known for its risky nighttime activities.
Efforts have been made to change Kabukicho’s negative image. In 2015, the Toho Group, famous for its film studio, built the Toho Building on 1-19-1 Kabukicho. The Dokyu Kabukicho Tower is part of ongoing efforts to improve the district’s image.
The Dokyu Kabukicho Tower will house Japan’s top entertainment facilities. It will feature a bus stop connecting to Haneda and Narita International Airports in the basement. The tower will also include a live hall for 1,500 people on floors 1-4, a theater for various stage effects on floors 6-8, and a cinema on floors 9-10.
Additionally, hotels operated by Dokyu Group will be present in the tower. The Hotel Grub Shinjuku will be located on floors 18-38, offering music-themed rooms and hosting artist performances. The Velusta Tokyo will occupy floors 39-47, providing rooms with a 7m wide view of Tokyo’s night skyline.
The construction of the Dokyu Kabukicho Tower is nearing completion. Located at 1-29-1 Kabukicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, next to Seibu-Shinjuku Station, it is close to Kabukicho 1st Street Cinemacity Square.
