In a recent confession, 정대세 revealed that his debt amounts to 20 billion won, with the source of the debt being related to real estate investments. The former soccer player, who had an active career for 17 years, disclosed this information on KBS’ ‘뽈룬티어’ in October.
It was reported that 정대세 incurred a significant amount of debt due to excessive spending, following the footsteps of 추성훈. This was highlighted when 정대세 appeared on MBC’s ‘짠남자’ and indulged in extravagant purchases, ranging from a 16 million won bicycle to a 35 million won luxury watch.
According to an exclusive report by 이데일리, 정대세 mentioned that he is diligently working to pay off his 20 billion won debt by contributing 5 million won each month. Born to a Korean father and a mother who maintained pre-liberation Chosun nationality, 정대세 is known as a Korean-Japanese living in Japan.
Starting his professional career with J-League’s Kawasaki Frontale in 2006, 정대세 went on to play for VFL Bochum in Germany in 2010, followed by Suwon Samsung in 2013. During his time in the K-League, he played 72 games, scoring 23 goals and providing 8 assists, showcasing his exceptional skills. He then returned to Japan in 2015 to play for Shimizu S-Pulse, where he continued to excel.
정대세, also known as the ‘People’s Rooney,’ left a significant mark as a member of the North Korean national team, earning him the nickname among domestic fans. After retiring from professional soccer, he transitioned into a broadcasting career, appearing on various shows like ‘피지컬:100 시즌2’, ‘골 때리는 그녀들’, ‘한 번쯤 이혼할 결심’, ‘생존왕’, and ‘뽈룬티어.’
Reflecting on his life after a 30-year soccer career, 정대세 expressed his interest in exploring new directions and revealed his fondness for appearing on TV shows. In a recent interview with a Japanese program, he disclosed details about his debt amounting to 29.9 million yen, including mortgage loans and investments.
Furthermore, 정대세 shared his experience of losing 20 million yen in a failed business, emphasizing the importance of being cautious when investing in ventures proposed by others. He also disclosed his ownership of two apartments in Hachioji, Japan, one of which yields a rental income of approximately 55,000 yen after investing 10,000 dollars.
정대세 also mentioned owning a condominium he acquired when joining Shimizu S-Pulse, as well as two real estate properties in Korea. Emphasizing the financial stability that real estate investments bring, he stressed the importance of creating income-generating systems even when unable to work.
Before moving to a Japanese team, 정대세 reportedly earned an annual salary of around 400 million won while playing for Suwon Samsung. However, he turned down a contract renewal with Suwon Samsung when Shimizu offered him a salary 2-3 times higher than his previous earnings.
