Seoul Auction’s September auction, featuring ‘2024 Connect Seoul’ exhibition, will showcase various works at the Gangnam Center in September. The auction will take place on September 10th. Japanese star artist Yoshi Tomo Nara’s exhibition is finally happening in Korea. Seoul Auction will open an exhibition at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center in Sinsa-dong during the Korea International Art Fair (KIAF)-Prize period. Seoul Auction announced that they will exhibit around 30 pieces of Nara’s paintings, sculptures, drawings, and more until September 13th. The focus will be on his large-scale paintings, including ‘Green Eyes,’ which features a child with big green eyes, a rare sight in domestic exhibitions. The exhibition will also feature a joint exhibition of ceramic artist Park Young-sook and painter Lee Woo-hwan called ‘Mindfulness.’ Visitors can see over 40 pieces of porcelain by Park and paintings by Lee, as well as collaborative pieces by the two artists. These exhibitions are part of Seoul Auction’s exhibition event ‘2024 Connect Seoul’ held before and after the KIAF-Prize period. In addition, galleries like Le Regard Remyeux, participating in the Prize Masters section, will exhibit antique jewelry from August 30th to September 7th, while the K11 Art Foundation in Hong Kong will showcase a media art exhibition themed around the moon in collaboration with LG OLED from September 3rd to 7th at the Gangnam Center exhibition space. The Seoul Auction September auction on September 10th will feature preview exhibitions of the works available for bidding. A total of 78 items (approximately 11.6 billion won in total) will be auctioned. Notable works include ‘Work’ by Korean artist Yu Young-kook (estimated at 800 million to 1.2 billion won), ‘Red Movable Type’ by Park Seo-bo (650 million to 900 million won), and ‘Crucifixion’ by Kim Hwan-ki (300 million to 450 million won) among domestic artists. From international artists, attention is drawn to flower paintings by Alex Katz (700 million to 1 billion won) and Nara Yoshi Tomo’s painting ‘Winter Long’ (650 million to 900 million won). Unique works include ‘Translated Vase Baby Elephant’ made of ceramic shards by artist Lee Soo-kyung (65 million to 100 million won) and a long, stainless steel bead and chain artwork by Yang He-gyu (30 million to 50 million won). Preview exhibitions and auctions will also feature a trunk created in collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama, as well as a handbag collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Park Seo-bo (12 million to 30 million won). The exhibitions will be open for viewing at the Gangnam Center until the auction day on the 10th. Seoul Auction will operate shuttle buses connecting COEX, the venue for Prize Seoul and KIAF Seoul from September 4th to 6th, and the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center. On September 5th, ‘Cheongdam Night,’ when galleries in Cheongdam-dong stay open until late, visitors can view exhibitions until 9 p.m. without prior reservation, free of charge.
