The Newark Regional Business Partnership has appointed a Black woman as its president and CEO, marking a historic moment. Ferlanda Fox Nixon will succeed Chip Hallock, who held the position for 25 years. Hallock praised Nixon’s qualifications and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the organization. Nixon, a former corporate attorney and executive at the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, acknowledged the significance of her appointment as the first Black person and woman in this role. She emphasized that she was chosen based on merit, not race. Nixon expressed excitement and honor in joining the NRBP team and highlighted Newark’s potential as a regional business community. She will take over the role on September 16 and will work with Hallock during the transition period. Nixon will lead the partnership, which comprises over 300 organizations and aims to connect businesses in Newark while promoting economic activity through collaborative projects and policies.
