The variety of domestic sports cars is not abundant, so the practical way to purchase is through used cars. Is it okay to buy 2 representative models of used cars?
Korean sports cars are not as diverse as one might think. From the past Hyundai’s Scoop to Tiburon, Tuscani, these cars have left their mark on the domestic automotive history, but unfortunately, they were discontinued without much follow-up. Currently, many sports cars have been discontinued, with only the Avante N surviving.
Therefore, if you want to purchase a Korean sports car other than Avante N, buying a used car is inevitable. Among the popular models, Genesis Coupe and Veloster N are the most realistic options that you can own and drive with ease. However, as they belong to high-performance vehicles, it is difficult to find good deals due to the abundance of accident cars or tuned cars. Let’s briefly find out if it is okay to buy a used sports car.
The Genesis Coupe, the first rear-wheel-drive sports car produced from 2008 to 2016, is equipped with 2.0L and 3.8L engines, leading the way in high-performance domestic rear-wheel-drive sports cars. The basic performance of the vehicle is not bad, but most of the used deals are tuned cars, making it difficult to find genuine deals if you lack expertise or want to buy a stock car. Especially, there are almost no stock deals for the 3.8 engine, and the price for the year model is relatively expensive, making it a bit burdensome. For entry-level purchase, I recommend models with a 2.0L engine.
The Veloster N, another sports car with a unique design that has secured a solid fan base, is the first N model to appear before the Avante N. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine and offers a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed DCT. Unlike the Genesis Coupe, it has the advantage of being relatively new in terms of model year and mileage, making the price of used deals more expensive than the Genesis Coupe. Most Veloster N used cars are priced in the range of 15 million to 19 million won. Like the Genesis Coupe, the key point is to distinguish accident cars.
Sports cars have a distinct consumer base compared to regular sedans, and they are a type of vehicle that strongly reflects individual preferences. Therefore, recommending a specific model may not be meaningful. However, vehicles like the Genesis Coupe and Veloster N are not a bad choice for purchasing as entry-level sports cars, as their characteristics are opposite, allowing for a wide range of choices.
So far, we have briefly looked at two types of domestic sports cars that are suitable for purchasing used, their characteristics, used prices, and points to be aware of. Buying a Korean sports car instead of an imported car at an affordable price can be a good choice to experience enjoyable driving.
